Description:Position Summary:

The Senior Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for all activities related to invoicing for American Public Media and its affiliates including Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) and Classical South Florida (CSF). This position will play a key role in Finance by working closely with our Sales and on-air scheduling teams in the billing and collections process. The successful candidate will possess solid technical and customer service skills and enjoy working in teams.

Position Responsibility:

• Responsible for all activities related to invoicing the activities of the organization;
• Provides support to financial managers in the fulfillment of assigned receivables;
• Analyzes accounts receivable, applies collection policies / procedures, and recommends accounting treatment for delinquent accounts;
• Provides monthly and ad-hoc statements, monthly aged receivable reports, and other financial information to financial managers;
• Evaluates and processes credit applications for new customers;
• Performs all activities related to tower rental clients including the calculation annual increases and updating the master lease records;
• Ensures that all invoices are substantiated with supporting source documents; manages the completeness of the organizations’ master file of signed underwriting contracts;
• Provides customer service on all inbound calls related to invoice questions;
• Analyzes and resolves monthly reconciling items between subsidiary ledgers and the Lawson general ledger;
• Generates substantiation letters for certain donors and clients;
• Supports the annual audit: creates confirmation letters and provides supporting documentation for account receivable related items;
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Accounting.

Required Education and Experience:

• High School degree or GED equivalent;
• 4-5 years accounting accounts receivable / billing or other related accounting experience;
• Significant experience using Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook and billing software.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of accounting concepts in general and the accounts receivable / billing cycle in particular;
• Competent with billing systems: invoicing, reporting, and interfacing to other general ledger;
• Demonstrated quantitative abilities;
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work under pressure;
• Must be self-motivated and a self-starter;
• Must possess excellent customer services skills and a friendly and professional attitude;
• Aptitude to learn new software applications;
• Must have the desire and ability to successfully work as a member of several teams;
• Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous, high priority tasks;
• Candidate must demonstrate high professionalism and ethical standards, this position processes sensitive and confidential information;
• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written);
• Work independently and proactively with minimal direction / supervision;
• Application of business policies and procedures regarding matters of billing, accounts receivable, and collections; provide recommendations to improve efficiency;
• Curiosity of business processes, working knowledge of audit trails and financial compliance practices.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• A two or four year degree relating to bookkeeping, accounting, or related business field;
• Non-profit collections experience;
• Knowledge of Lawson financial software;
• Knowledge of Visual Traffic software;
• Knowledge of Enterprise software;
• General ledger reconciliation experience.
