| Description: | Position Summary:
The Digital Revenue Strategist will work in a hands-on capacity with Digital Media, Underwriting and Membership to conceive, create, implement and maintain digital systems and initiatives that generate digital revenue for Southern California Public Radio (SCPR).
This position is focused on expanding our financial support base by using the tools of e-commerce, SEO/SEM and key learning in the nonprofit sector in ways that support our mission and community relationships. Such avenues would include crowdfunding models such as Spot.us and Kickstarter; best practices for incorporating funding approaches into ongoing audience communication; and a focus on delivering value through digital sponsorships in keeping with SCPR’s journalistic mission. We believe this position could generate enough revenue over three years to support many other initiatives and is key to demonstrating a model for financial sustainability in nonprofit community news and information.
Membership Support
Increase existing and develop new digital philanthropic support for SCPR using the full range of our Internet channels including social media, email, Web sites, and text-to-give. Develop and implement a plan for these programs aligned with SCPR strategic goals that addresses key priorities such as Double-the-Base. Develop and implement a coordinated social media strategy to communicate and engage with members electronically, and to convert social media users into members. Help maintain all membership-related Web pages at scpr.org.
Underwriting Support
Coordinating with the Underwriting department and following best practices in interface development and coding, the Digital Revenue Strategist will be responsible for the monetary effectiveness and functionality of revenue-related Web sites, e-mailings and related digital campaigns such that online revenue goals can be consistently met or exceeded. Will code HTML and Javascript, and will have a key role in defining and testing systems developed internally and externally aimed at increasing digital revenue.
CRM Support
As SCPR continually updates and modernizes its in-house Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, the Digital Revenue Strategist will be instrumental in providing a seamless integration with Digital Media systems. As part of this integration, the candidate will be responsible for leveraging the CRM system in support of digital membership and underwriting campaigns.
Position Responsibility:
• Work with Membership, Underwriting, and Digital staff to identify opportunities to grow online revenues.
• Working with software developers and interface designers, create smoothly functioning transactional sites and forms.
• Help plan and execute online strategies to increase online revenue.
• Recommend, plan and execute an effort to extend solicitation and transactions on mobile devices and via social media sites.
• Establish a knowledge base of how other organizations and businesses are innovating in the digital realm to increase online revenue and service.
• Participate in the specification and selection of online revenue, email and production systems.
Membership
• Offer key support for online production to ensure effective and efficient delivery of all Internet-based membership services and strategies.
• Support development and implementation of online fundraising plans (email & social media campaigns, e-newsletters & solicitations, campaigns, social media giveaways and more).
• Provide ongoing high level of customer service to the Membership staff
Underwriting:
• Evaluate effectiveness of revenue-generating inventory and work with the VP of Underwriting and the Director of Digital Media to provide recommendations for adjustments to increase effectiveness.
• Work with the VP of Underwriting and the Director of Digital Media to identify and create new underwriting opportunities for revenue growth.
• Provide guidance to underwriting management/team on digital deliverables, potential pricing and implementation.
• Provide research to obtain and present relevant metrics needed to support underwriting efforts, i.e. sales dashboard with site performance and market information.
Digital:
• Monitor and evaluate online Membership and/or Underwriting campaigns
o Evaluate campaign results/effectiveness
o Take measures to control/adjust strategies as necessary.
• Keep abreast of current digital trends in social media, sales, marketing, research and promotions.
• Assist with vendor selection/management for digital revenue initiatives
• Evaluate analytical information including research to facilitate membership and underwriting decisions
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
• Graduate degree in a related field. MBA with a technology concentration preferred.
• 5-7 years' experience in Web site design, including proficiency in HTML/CSS, Photoshop and familiarity with database-related Web tools
• 5-7 Experience in digital fundraising, underwriting/advertising and/or e-commerce experience using the full range of Internet channels including email, Web sites, RSS feeds and on-demand audio
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Experienced technologist and business professional who has worked in a digital fundraising/ecommerce role for a major publisher.
• Understanding of the importance of leveraging technology in order to support existing and develop new revenue streams with the goal to support independent, local journalism.
• Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment, providing excellent customer support to colleagues in SCPR’s Membership and Underwriting departments.
• Excellent skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript
• Ability to apply principles of interface design and usability
• Adept at working with a wide range of software tools
• Excellent analytical, customer service, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability, creativity and motivation to work in new and creative ways to expand the boundaries of traditional audience services
• Well-developed collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Extensive experience and prior success in fundraising, digital revenue generation or commerce
• Demonstrated track record in meeting financial goals and developing strategies to maximize resources
• Experience with Photoshop and HTML editors
• Experience with CRM systems
• Experience with online ad management systems such as Google DFP, Double Click or OAS
• Familiarity with Sales Force, Round Cause, Eloqua
• Experience with content management systems
• Demonstrated interest in public radio's mission
