| Description: | The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for launching a major gift program and campaign in Southwest Florida to support the introduction and sustainability of Classical South Florida radio. This professional will build a pool of individual and foundation major donor prospects, ultimately managing a portfolio of 150 donors and securing increasingly larger financial commitments in current and deferred gifts. This gifts officer will also lead a $2 4 million campaign to underwrite the purchase of the new radio station WNPS. As a member of the Classical South Florida Major Gifts team, the Major Gifts Officer reports to the President and General Manager of CSF, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale.
This is a new position and in year one, the Major Gifts Officer will create a multi-year development plan; identify, cultivate and solicit a pool of major gifts prospects; and recruit a committee of volunteers who will assist in launching the new gift program as well as planning for a major campaign.
Position Responsibilities:
Build a major gifts program in the Southwest Florida listening area on behalf of Classical South Florida
Create a multi-year development plan and corresponding budget that outlines strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and recognizing major donors
Effectively articulate a compelling case for support so that prospects "buy in" to the vision/mission/goals of the new classical station;
Partner with the Philharmonic Arts Center, Collier County Community Foundation and other organizations who promote the arts in Southwest Florida to identify and cultivate donors
Identify a pool of donor prospects and move toward building a portfolio of 150 donors, conducting 120 visits annually
Recruit and manage a committee of volunteers who will assist in identifying, cultivating and soliciting donor prospects and planning the major campaign
Prepare for, launch and complete a $2 4 million campaign to underwrite the purchase of the new classical station
Articulate a campaign plan which includes identification of the case and campaign goal, recruitment of a volunteer steering committee, a timeline, budget and pre-campaign study
Recruit campaign steering committee, campaign chair
Acknowledge, recognize and maintain stewardship of campaign donors
Follow best practices in conducting the major gifts program
Document donor contacts in donor management software following established protocols
Provide regular reports on prospect management and fund raising results
Assume and achieve annual fundraising and activity goals as determined with supervisor
Spend at least75% of time in donor contact, in person or on the phone or in strategic communications with donors and prospects;
Conduct a minimum of 120 face-to-face visits annually
Develop written proposals, renewal letters, and other donor communications
Lead or participate in major donor events
Assist in training and coaching volunteers who will advance development initiatives
Participate actively as a major gifts team member
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree
A minimum of 5 years successful major individual and foundation gifts experience
Demonstrated success leading a capital or program campaign
Demonstrated success in securing five to seven figure gifts and meeting revenue targets
Demonstrated success in creating effective donor relationships and recruiting, training and managing volunteers
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tools(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and donor databases
Demonstrated effectiveness as a persuasive and strategic communicator with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, the ability to communicate the mission of MPR in a compelling fashion, and successfully interact across the organization
Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple projects and conflicting priorities
Willingness to travel throughout South and Southwest Florida
Preferred Experience:
Experience securing gifts for arts related programs
Knowledge and Abilities:
Motivated, strategic, creative, and organized self-starter and team player.
Knowledgeable about and committed to public media and enthusiastic about the mission and programs and services of MPR|APM;
Knowledge of Southwest Floridas philanthropic community
Strategic thinker and good listener who has demonstrated resourcefulness in working collaboratively with many constituencies.
Ability to work independently and as a flexible and collaborative member of the major gifts team
Ability to imagine and create donor engagement opportunities
