Co-Host, National News Magazine Show #158-12

Description:The Co-Host serves as one of two defining voices for a two-hour national news magazine that will evolve from The Madeleine Brand Show with a focus on the Latino and other ethnic communities/interests/issues. The show currently airs on SCPR weekdays from 9-10 AM. The co-host will help redefine the sound of the program as it expands and changes. (S)he will serve as regular on-air host, initiate and develop story ideas, write and produce stories for the program, and serve as a public personality, ambassador and representative for SCPR.
Duties:• One of two major on-air voices for the program.
• Researches, writes and delivers live and recorded program elements.
• Works with program staff on program material, interviews, actualities, reporter pieces, etc.
• Keeps producers informed of changing and breaking stories.
• Maintains up-to-the-minute knowledge of local, national and international news.
• Suggests programming ideas and prepares for interviews. Proposes and conducts interviews.
• Originates, reports, and writes stories.
• Participates in other production for the program.
• Serves as a public representative for the program and SCPR.
• Other duties as assigned, including serving as back-up host for other SCPR programs
Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
• Professional on-air delivery. Confident, conversational, personal style.
• Five years of experience as on-air talent on radio or television.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Ability to perform on-air in a consistently clear, interesting, conversational, friendly and relaxed manner.
• A pleasant, engaging voice. Superior ear and sense of sound. Sense of humor and personal style.
• Demonstrated ability as a live broadcaster, with ability to perform under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to write, edit, produce and deliver live and recorded content at consistently high level.
• Critical personal and journalistic judgment skills.
• Broad general knowledge, wide range of interests, natural sense of curiosity.
• Excellent interviewing skills.
• Able to work with a highly creative team, including a prominent co-host.
• Wide network of personal contacts – with a focus in ethnic communities.
• Ability to represent SCPR at public, donor and industry events.
• Interest and experience in blogging, social networking, online production, and/or other digital media areas.
• Working knowledge of basic newsroom systems.
• Working knowledge of standard digital audio recording and editing systems.
• Wide network of personal contacts.
• General knowledge of public radio, broadcasting, digital media and journalism.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Previous live hosting experience highly desirable.
• Well developed audio production skills
• Public speaking skills
• Preference for being fluent in Spanish and additional preference for fluency in a third language (Mandarin, Korean, Farsi, Japanese or other)
