Inclusion and Community Impact | Mission Statement
Our mission is to enrich the mind and nourish the spirit; to expand the perspectives of our audiences; and help them strengthen their communities. THEIR communities are OUR communities. To strengthen our communities requires deeper understanding of the people, the issues, and the aspirations of those communities. Our continued relevance in a rapidly changing world is dependent upon our ability to listen, translate and act as a communications platform. Our growth depends on our ability to be better listeners, better partners and to be more inclusive.
Inclusion: Our content will intentionally be informed by diverse ideological, cultural, socioeconomic and age perspectives in order to reflect and understand the rich dimensions of our community.
Workplace Diversity: Workplace Diversity encompasses all those differences that make us unique including but not limited to race, color, ethnicity, language, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, gender, gender identity, socio-economic status, geography, years of service, age, physical and mental ability. We will create an environment where each person in a diverse workforce feels valued and is able to fully develop his or her working potential and contribute to the organization's success.
Audience: Our consumers or users of our services.
Community: Reference to all people in our community, including those not currently in our audience. Community can denote groups of people sharing geography, or an affinity, interest, demographic or cultural identity around which they organize. Audience is a subset of community.
Community Impact: Providing real value (greater impact) for our communities, beyond our audiences. We will be better listeners and partners. We will have a positive "force multiplier" effect in our communities.

The Inclusion Council is an opportunity for employees to support and advance the Inclusion and Community Impact strategy.
Specific goals of the Inclusion Council are:
1. Support and expand the organization's community engagement work,
2. Foster and encourage community service opportunities,
3. Engage MPR staff in community discussions, and
4. Strengthen the organization's diversity and inclusion best practices.
